Housing Justice with EvictionFreeMKE

As an initiative started by the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee, EvictionFreeMKE is dedicated to promoting housing justice and protecting the rights of renters in Milwaukee. We believe that safe, stable housing is a fundamental human right, and we are committed to helping families stay in their homes and avoid the trauma and negative health effects of eviction.

During National Public Health Week, we want to draw attention to the critical connection between housing and health. Poor housing conditions can lead to a wide range of health problems, including respiratory illnesses, lead poisoning, and injuries. Living in unstable housing, such as facing eviction, can also contribute to mental health issues like anxiety and depression. This is why our work at EvictionFreeMKE is so important.

Our goal is to prevent evictions from happening in the first place by providing free legal aid to tenants facing eviction. We help families navigate the complex legal system and defend their rights. In addition, we offer financial counseling and rental assistance to help families stay in their homes and avoid eviction.

For families who do end up facing eviction, we provide support and resources to help them transition to new housing. This includes help with finding new housing, assistance with moving expenses, and referrals to other community resources.

The work we are doing at EvictionFreeMKE is critical for the health and well-being of families in Milwaukee. By helping families stay in their homes and avoid the trauma of eviction, we can reduce the negative health effects of unstable housing and promote more stable and healthy communities.

Let's work together to promote housing justice and protect the health and well-being of all families in Milwaukee.
